About MAKERSWED

Who is MAKERSWED?

MAKERSWED is a wedding photography and film house based in Palma de Mallorca. It is directed, photographed and filmed by one small, qualified team, which makes both the photography and the film of every wedding.

What does MAKERSWED offer?

Wedding photography and video, in two collections: the Editorial Archive (the whole weekend, from the pre-wedding to the rehearsal dinner, with the main film and a trailer) and the Heritage Collection (several days of presence, an extended film and a book printed on art paper). Extras, such as printed albums, can be added on request.

Where does MAKERSWED work?

Based in Palma de Mallorca, MAKERSWED works in Mallorca, Ibiza and Madrid, and travels for destination weddings across the rest of Europe.

Which languages does MAKERSWED work in?

Spanish and English.

How do I request a quote from MAKERSWED?

A short message or the contact form is enough, with the date and the place. MAKERSWED replies within 24 hours at most, arranges a design call with no commitment and then sends the Proposal Dossier, tailored and in writing.

Does MAKERSWED publish its prices?

No. Each proposal is made to measure and sent in writing after the design call; no figures are published on the website.

How many weddings does MAKERSWED accept each year?

A limited number, so that each story is told as it deserves and the team's attention falls exclusively on that story. MAKERSWED does not work by volume.

Wedding photography and film

How do I choose a wedding photographer if everyone shows great photos?

Choosing is hard precisely because everyone shows the same thing: their best twenty photos, and anyone's best twenty are good. What decides how your wedding photos turn out is what a portfolio doesn't show: whether the photographer stops the wedding to arrange people, or knows the rhythm of the day and is already in place before it happens.

Will the photographer make us pose during the wedding?

No. We only pause for the family groups, which have to be done, and done quickly. The rest is not interrupting: arranging people and asking them to laugh gives correct photos and loses the wedding.

How many photos are delivered from a wedding?

The number of edited photographs depends on how long the day is and on the style of work: the sensible thing is to ask what is delivered, in what format and within what time, and to have it in writing. All in high resolution, with no watermark and with the right to print whatever you like.

Why is it better for the same team to do photo and video?

Because photo and video compete for the same spot, the best one to see what's happening. Two teams that don't know each other get in each other's way all afternoon, and it shows in both deliveries. When the same team does it, positions are shared out beforehand and not argued over during.

What time is best for the couple's portrait session?

With the last light of the afternoon, the hour before sunset. It's an important point and we have a key role in it: we advise and guide the couple, the planner or the venue so the schedule works in your favour. In Palma the sun sets at 21:17 on 15 June. That's why it's best to settle the schedule well ahead, and we help you decide it.

Where do you work?

Usually in Mallorca, Ibiza and Madrid, and also across Spain and Europe.

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Madrid?

We don't publish a rate because the price depends on three things: whether it's photo only or photo and video, how many hours are covered, and where the wedding is. What is fixed is the method: you write to us through the form, we reply within 24 hours and, after a short design call, the quote arrives in writing and with no commitment.

Is it one photographer or two of you?

There are two of us: one person with the photo camera and another with the video camera, on the same day and with the same colour approach loaded into both cameras. That's why the photos and the film of one wedding don't look made by different teams.

What does the wedding video include?

A film of about 20 minutes with the full day (about 10 with half a day) and a trailer of about three. It can be booked with the photography or separately, although it works better with the same team: photo and video fight over the same spot all day.

Is it worth having two videographers?

Very much so: it's where the difference in video quality shows most. With two videographers there are two angles at once (ceremony, reactions, the couple and family), no moment is missed and the sound is better covered. The second videographer is added to the proposal.

Can I ask for the original files (the master) of the photos or the video?

Yes, you can ask for them, at an additional cost. Please note the video originals look flat and greyish, with little colour, because the colour is worked on afterwards, just like the photos. That's why the final result looks much better than the original.

Do we have to have a meeting before asking for a quote?

Not to ask for one: the form is enough, and asking for a quote commits you to nothing. With the date, the place and whether you want photo, video or both, we reply within 24 hours and arrange a short design call, about design and not cameras, before we talk about price. If you haven't settled on a venue yet, the area is enough.

How are travel and VAT handled?

It depends on the place. Travel is set out in writing in your proposal before signing, and each proposal states in writing whether the amount includes VAT.

Do you also do a pre-wedding session?

Yes. It's the way to get used to the camera before the day that can't be repeated, and it's best done at the last hour of sun, the same light the wedding is worked in. How we do pre-wedding sessions in Madrid.

Quote and booking

How much does a wedding with you cost?

It depends on the hours on site, on whether you want photo and video, and on where the wedding is. Write to us with the date and the place and we'll reply within 24 hours and, after a short design call, send you the final price in writing and with no commitment.

Do you offer printed albums and other extras?

Yes. They can be added to any proposal: a printed wedding album (40×30 cm, 50 pages), a family album (30×20 cm, 50 pages, in a box), a framed gift photo, a delivery box with a USB drive and 20 photos at 10×15, an instant camera for your guests with an album to stick the photos in, a second camera, extra hours or days, unedited files, aerial views of the venue, subject to regulations, a short film for social media, a save-the-date film and a couple session before the wedding or in the dress afterwards. Rates are discussed on the design call and confirmed in writing in your proposal.

How is travel handled?

It depends on the place. Travel and accommodation, if needed, are set out in writing in your proposal before signing; they never appear afterwards.

Do you do photo and video on the same day?

Yes, with our own team: photographer and videographer working together. There's no need to choose, and you won't end up with two suppliers who don't know each other getting in each other's way.

How many photos do we receive?

The number of edited photographs depends on how long the day is and on the style of work: the sensible thing is to ask what is delivered, in what format and within what time, and to have it in writing. We count moments, not photos: we choose and edit each one.

When do we receive the photos and the video?

Photos within a maximum of a month and a half; the film within a maximum of three months. The album depends on its type and on how long you take to choose. The deadline is set in writing in the quote, and if anything is delayed we tell you before you ask.

How is the date reserved?

The terms of reservation and payment are confirmed in writing in your proposal, before you sign.

Do we need a second photographer?

We recommend one from around a hundred guests, or if you get ready in different places: we can't be in two places at once. If we see it isn't needed, we'll tell you.

Can we see a whole wedding, and not just the best of each?

Yes. Ask us and we'll show you one in full. It's the best way to know how we really work: anyone's best shows in a summary, what matters shows in the whole wedding.

Weddings in Mallorca

What time does the sun set in Mallorca on the wedding day?

Between twenty-five and thirty-one minutes earlier than in Madrid. On 15 June, at 21:17 in Palma against 21:48 in Madrid; on 15 October, at 19:11 against 19:36. If you copy a schedule designed for a Madrid venue, the couple's session starts when the light has already gone.

How much light does the Serra de Tramuntana take away?

Six minutes for every degree the mountain rises above your horizon. A ridge of a thousand metres at ten kilometres takes up about six degrees: thirty-five minutes of sun that appear in no sunset table. The range covers about eighty degrees of horizon, from 255° to 340°, so what decides it is not the range but which point of that arc your date falls on.

Can a wedding in Mallorca be covered by arriving on the same day?

It is wiser not to: the prudent course is to arrive the day before. A delayed flight has no plan B, and seeing the place in the light the evening before is what lets us know where the sun comes into the courtyard before a hundred and twenty guests are in it. The equipment should be brought doubled, because on an August Saturday on the island there's no shop to replace anything.

Is it more expensive to hire a photographer from outside Mallorca?

It doesn't have to be, but it has to be settled before signing. Travel and accommodation are calculated and set out in writing in the quote; they don't show up afterwards. It's where couples working with suppliers from outside the island get the worst surprises. We reply within 24 hours and, after a short design call, send the final quote.

Destination weddings

Is only the wedding day covered, or the welcome dinner too?

Whatever you'd like covered. A destination wedding is almost never a single day: welcome dinner on Friday, wedding on Saturday, lunch on Sunday. It's quoted by days on site, not as a fixed bundle, so you can leave out whatever doesn't interest you.

Why bring spare equipment to a destination wedding?

Because a wedding can't be repeated and, far from home, there's no shop to replace anything. Any team should bring spare cameras, batteries, cards and sound equipment so that, whatever happens, no moment is lost.
