Choosing a wedding date in Mallorca:day of the week, holidays and long weekends

Beyond the month: what changes with the day of the week, the holidays and the long weekends.

Choosing a wedding date in Mallorca is not only picking a month: it is also deciding whether it will be a Friday, a Saturday, a Sunday or a weekday, and which holiday or long weekend falls nearby. On that choice depend who can come, where the guests sleep and how contested the venue will be.

This text is about that second layer of the decision. The months and the weather already have their guide: when to marry in Mallorca and Ibiza, month by month. Here you will find the day of the week, the official 2027 holidays, long weekends, lodging and what changes in a civil ceremony from one town hall to the next. The official dates carry their source; the rest is general trade judgement, not a rule.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a weekday

No day is best in general; there is a day that suits your guests. What changes is mostly logistics, not the wedding itself.

  • Saturday. It is the day almost everyone can come without asking for time off, and that is why it is the first one people ask about: venues and teams have less room. The sooner you raise it, the more options you will have.
  • Friday. It allows a full weekend with the party in the middle and leaves Saturday and Sunday for those who travel far. In exchange, some guests will have to take the day or the afternoon off.
  • Sunday. It is less usual. Ask the venue what time it closes that day, and think of those who work on Monday: they will have to leave earlier, and return flights weigh more than they seem to.
  • A weekday. It tends to leave more room in the diary for venues and teams, but it needs guests with days off. It suits small groups better, and families who live nearby or who come for several days.

Ask each supplier whether the day of the week changes their availability or their proposal, and ask for it in writing. For the photographs and the film, the day of the week matters little: the date rules, because it decides when the light goes, and that is covered in the guide to the timetable of the day.

The 2027 holidays in the Balearic Islands

According to the official labour calendar of the Balearic Islands for 2027, published in the BOIB no. 122 of 29 September 2026, there are twelve general holidays. Here they are, with the weekday they fall on:

  • 1 January, Friday: New Year’s Day.
  • 6 January, Wednesday: Epiphany.
  • 1 March, Monday: Balearic Islands Day.
  • 25 March, Thursday: Maundy Thursday.
  • 26 March, Friday: Good Friday.
  • 29 March, Monday: Easter Monday.
  • 1 May, Saturday: Labour Day.
  • 12 October, Tuesday: National Day.
  • 1 November, Monday: All Saints’ Day.
  • 6 December, Monday: Constitution Day.
  • 8 December, Wednesday: Immaculate Conception.
  • 25 December, Saturday: Christmas Day.

Two of them, 1 May and Christmas, fall on a Saturday: that day is already a holiday. And Holy Week runs from Thursday 25 to Monday 29 March, Easter Monday included. If one of these dates coincides with the one you are considering, you have one more reason to speak early with the venue and with your guests.

The municipality’s local holiday

On top of the general ones, each municipality has at most two local holidays, proposed by the town council and listed in the official labour calendar of the Balearic Islands for 2027. The ones that matter are those of the municipality where the venue is, and every town has its own.

It is worth knowing whether the wedding date coincides with one of them, because it can affect people who work at the place, access and the atmosphere of the town. Ask the venue: it will usually know it by heart.

Long weekends

When a holiday falls next to a weekend, many people stretch it. With the 2027 calendar in front of you, these cases are clear:

  • Tuesday 12 October. Whoever can link the Monday gets a long weekend, from Saturday to Tuesday.
  • Monday 1 November and Monday 6 December. A long weekend that ends on a holiday, with no bridge day to ask for.
  • Thursday 25 to Monday 29 March. This is Holy Week, and many guests will already have plans for it.
  • Wednesday 6 January and 8 December. They fall mid-week: each guest will decide whether to link them.

A long weekend cuts both ways. In its favour, people travelling from far away have days to go and return. Against it, more people move at once and there may be more demand for flights, hotels and houses. This is general judgement: check it with your suppliers before you decide.

Lodging and travel on a long weekend

If the wedding coincides with a long weekend, look at lodging and flights before you take the date as closed: they tend to run out before the venue does. Ask as soon as you can for an option for the group at the hotels or lodgings you like, and compare it with your guests’ flights on those days.

If you are organising from far away, the decisions, in their order, are in marrying in Mallorca from abroad. And how far ahead to talk to each supplier is in this other guide.

The civil ceremony, town hall by town hall

If the ceremony is a civil one held by the town hall, you do not set the date alone. Under the Spanish Civil Code, the marriage may be celebrated by the mayor of the municipality where it takes place or the councillor the mayor delegates to; also by a notary or a court clerk (letrado de la Administración de Justicia), at the couple’s choice. With the town hall, then, the diary is theirs: which days it offers, which rooms or spaces it has and how far ahead you must ask.

Each municipality is different, and there is no common rule. So ask the town hall you have in mind before committing the day to the venue or to any supplier. If you would rather marry at the same estate, that route is told in civil ceremony at the same estate, and the overview of the legal and the symbolic in the civil wedding guide.

How to decide without going round in circles

Put three questions in order. First, the month and the weather, in the month-by-month guide. Second, whom you need at the wedding at all costs and which day they can come. Third, which holidays and long weekends fall near the dates you are considering, and whether the town hall and the venue are free that day.

With three possible dates and those answers, the decision usually becomes clear on its own. If you would like us to look with you at how the light falls on the one you choose, tell us your story.

Frequently asked questions

Which day of the week is best for a wedding in Mallorca?

None is best in general: it depends on your guests. Saturday is the easiest to attend and the most contested; Friday and Sunday stretch the weekend; a weekday tends to leave more room in the diary but needs days off.

What are the 2027 public holidays in the Balearic Islands?

According to the official labour calendar of the Balearic Islands for 2027, twelve general ones: 1 January, 6 January, 1 March, Maundy Thursday (25 March), Good Friday (26 March), Easter Monday (29 March), 1 May, 12 October, 1 November, 6 December, 8 December and 25 December. Each municipality adds up to two local holidays.

Is it a good idea to marry on a long weekend?

It has advantages and risks. People travelling from far away have more room to go and return, but more people are moving at once, so look at lodging and flights before you close the date.

Who sets the day of a civil ceremony at the town hall?

The town hall organises it, and decides which days and spaces it offers. So ask it before committing the date to the venue or to suppliers.
