Wedding photographer in Madrid from Mallorca:how the team travels

What changes when the team sets out from Palma and the wedding is in Madrid.

A wedding photographer in Madrid from Mallorca is, in practice, a team based in Palma that travels to your wedding. It is neither a problem nor an advantage in itself: it is a fact that changes the order of the questions. Here we cover what really changes (the journey, the arrival, the light and the plan of the day) and what to ask before you decide. The general picture of marrying far from home is in destination weddings: arriving the day before; here we stay with the specific case of Madrid.

What changes and what does not

What does not change is the way of looking at the day: two people, one for the photographs and one for the film, with a single colour approach. What does change is four things, all before the wedding: how the equipment travels, when the team arrives, what light it faces and who receives it at the venue. None is hard. All four are better settled in writing, weeks ahead, than on a Friday afternoon.

There is also a matter of contact, and it is worth saying aloud. If you want to meet whoever will photograph your wedding in person several times before the date, a Madrid-based team makes that easier. With a Palma team, those conversations will be by video call, plus a visit to the venue the evening before. It is a reasonable choice either way; what you should avoid is discovering it after signing.

How the team travels

There is a direct flight between Palma and Madrid, lasting around an hour and a half. It is no expedition, but it is still a flight: it can be delayed, and what travels on it is not a briefcase but cameras, lenses, batteries, cards and sound equipment.

Ask how that equipment is divided up. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) reminds passengers that spare batteries may not go in checked baggage: they must travel in the cabin, individually protected, and their number is limited. In other words, the essentials travel with the people, and whoever organises this well has thought it through before packing.

Ask too what happens if a piece fails or does not arrive: where it can be replaced in Madrid and how long that takes. And the same goes for people: who stands in for a team member who cannot travel that day. That question, with the others that help you compare, is in wedding photographer and filmmaker from one team.

The evening before: what it is for

Between two cities with a direct flight it is tempting to think you can leave in the morning and arrive on time. That works until a flight is delayed, and then the wedding has no plan B. So the rule for any wedding far from home applies: nobody essential arrives on the day. Here, moreover, the evening before has three concrete uses:

  • Seeing the venue at the hour of the ceremony: where the light comes in, where each person gets ready and where the equipment goes in.
  • Meeting whoever coordinates in Madrid (the planner, the florist or the person at the venue) and confirming the timetable with them.
  • Sleeping in the city, with the equipment checked and the batteries charged.

Ask whether the team’s lodging and early arrival are covered in the proposal, and have it put in writing. It is better to settle this at the start than at the end.

Madrid light and timing

Here is a detail that gets overlooked. Madrid and Palma share the same clock, but not the same sun: from May to October the sun sets in Madrid 24 to 28 minutes later than in Palma. A team with the island sunset in mind, or one that reuses another wedding’s timetable, would arrive half an hour early for Madrid’s light, and half an hour is more than half of the good-light window, which lasts between thirty and forty-five minutes.

For your date, ask the team to work out the time for Madrid, not Palma, and to give it to you with the venue in front of them: whatever blocks the horizon (a mountain range, a building, a stand of trees) matters more than the clock. The Madrid table, with the time of the good light and the point on the horizon where the sun sets, is in wedding timetable: the key half hour; we do not repeat it here.

There is another difference, not of light but of air. According to AEMET averages, July is drier in Madrid than in Palma; the figures are in Mallorca, Ibiza and Madrid: few suppliers work in all three. For someone coming from the sea, a summer afternoon in Madrid feels different, and it is worth planning shade and water for guests while they wait.

The plan of the day, seen from outside

A team that is not from the city depends more on what others tell it. That is why the plan of the day becomes a document rather than a conversation: a single sheet with the times, received at once by the venue, the caterer, the music and whoever photographs and films. This is what a visiting team needs and cannot work out for itself:

  • What time the venue opens to the team and who receives it.
  • Where the equipment goes in and where to park or unload.
  • How long it takes to get between the places of the day (getting ready, ceremony, celebration) at that hour, and who has checked it.
  • Who the contact person is on the wedding day, with a phone number.
  • What happens to the cocktail hour and the couple’s portraits if the timetable slips, and who decides.

If the getting ready is in the city and the ceremony at a venue on the outskirts, the journey goes into the timetable as one more item. Ask someone who knows it (the planner, the venue, a relative) to confirm how long it takes on a Saturday at that hour, and leave a margin. A visiting team has no reason to know that road; you, or whoever helps you, do.

Put in writing, too, when the team’s day ends. Whether it must fly back to Palma that same night or the next morning affects how late it can stay; it is a matter of logistics, not delivery, but it changes the end of the day.

What to ask a Palma-based team

Ask these in writing, before signing, and keep the answers:

  • How and when do you arrive, and what is the alternative if the journey is delayed or cancelled?
  • Where do you sleep the evening before, and is it covered in the proposal?
  • What equipment travels in the cabin, and what is the plan if a piece does not arrive?
  • Have you seen the venue, or will you the evening before, and at what time?
  • What time does the good light fall on my date, worked out for Madrid?
  • Who receives the team at the venue and what is the access like?
  • Who stands in if one of the team cannot travel?

If you do not yet have a venue, where to marry: Madrid, beyond and the islands helps you order the choice. And if you already have a date and a place in Madrid and want to know how we would work from Palma, you can tell us your story.

A team used to travelling answers all of this easily and in detail. If the answers are vague or slow to come, that is information too, and it is better to have it before signing than the evening before the wedding.

Frequently asked questions

Can a team based in Mallorca photograph a wedding in Madrid?

It is a journey like any other: a direct flight of around an hour and a half and a different kind of planning. What matters is how it is handled: arrival the evening before, equipment in the cabin, a timetable worked out for Madrid and someone to receive the team. Ask for all of it in writing.

How long is the flight between Palma and Madrid?

Around an hour and a half on a direct flight, according to the airlines and flight search sites consulted. It varies with the date and the carrier, and does not include the time to the airport or collecting luggage.

What time does the sun set in Madrid compared with Palma?

From May to October, 24 to 28 minutes later in Madrid, on the same clock. That difference is enough to throw off the time of the best light if the timetable was worked out with the island in mind.

Does the team have to arrive the day before?

It is the prudent choice: a flight can be delayed and a wedding has no plan B. The evening before lets you see the venue at the hour of the ceremony and confirm the timetable with whoever coordinates.

Is there a wedding photographer and videographer in Madrid from one team?

Yes: two professionals, photography and film, on the same day. The detail is in wedding videographer in Madrid: the wedding film.

Where can a wedding be held in Madrid and how does the light fall?

Each type of place has its own light and timetable. There is a guide for each: estates with accommodation, the Sierra Norte, Aranjuez and Chinchón and hotels.

How much does a wedding photographer in Madrid cost?

We do not publish a rate: it depends on whether it is photography only or also film, the hours and the place. What moves it, without numbers: what a wedding photographer costs depends on.
